Seeking help for your children?

When Parents are separating or having problems in their relationship it is of considerable importance that both children and parents gain a clearer understanding of what is happening within the family.

At a time when Parents maybe so involved in their own problems there is a danger that their children's own needs maybe overlooked, Childtalk employs skilled counsellors to help children understand what is happening to them and make sense of their feelings. When counselling comes to an end the counsellor may, with the agreement of your child, need to share some of what has been discussed. This will help all of you to understand more clearly the affects of your actions and minimise the problems for your child(ren).

Seeking help for yourself?

In a separate project working with the Children’s Fund (a government-funded scheme which aims to support children at this vulnerable time and give them a good start in life) a limited number of appointments are available for families experiencing the problems caused by family breakdown.

We can offer you a maximum of eight appointments.

In return, we expect you to:
  • Attend appointments regularly, or give us two working days notice of postponement.
  • Respond when we get in touch with you to find out how we have been able to help.
Help is also available to families affected by domestic violence or families currently engaged in court proceedings relating to their children.

We would like to gain your opinion relating to our work and we may ask you to take part in helping us to evaluate our service.

Here are some comments we have received from families we have been able to help

“A very good service ……. If easier access …. it could help so many more children.”

“Since having the sessions James has come on great. His school work has improved so I am very grateful, thank you.”

“ The counsellor was great with us both (parent and child) … a helpful and caring person that helped us both.”

“Tim is calmer and happier since counselling. His teachers have also given positive feedback which is comforting as his referral was prompted by aggressive behaviour in school.”

If you make use of our service we may ask you to help by taking part in our evaluation process.
